Successful students receive a "Statement of Attainment", and a wallet-sized operator card, which is recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework.
Course Overview:
A Rigid Haul Truck is a self-propelled, wheeled machine used within the civil industry. Comprised of six wheels and a braking system that works on all wheels called a retarder system, a Rigid Haul Truck's primary purpose is to move large quantities of material around the site. For a Rigid Haul Truck to be used economically and safely, the operator must receive adequate training. This course focuses on the skills and knowledge required to Conduct Rigid Haul Truck Operations in the Resources and Infrastructure Industries.
Course Outline:
This unit covers Conduct Rigid Haul Truck Operations within the civil industry. This includes but not limited to:
- Plan and prepare for Rigid Haul Truck operations.
- Operate Rigid Haul Truck in line with established requirements.
- Load, haul, and dump materials to complete work activity.
- Conduct housekeeping activities.

- Apply safe work practices.
- Apply problem solving and troubleshooting techniques.
- Use of correct personal protective equipment.
- Plan and prepare for the job at hand.
- Apply correct positive communication techniques.
- Carry out pre-operational checks on a Rigid Haul Truck.
- How to operate a Rigid Haul Truck in a safe and efficient manner.
- Driving and operating a Rigid Haul Truck and adjusting techniques to suit site conditions.
- Loading, hauling, and dumping material.
- Carry out post-operational checks on a Rigid Haul Truck.
Prerequisites & Entry Requirements:
- Provide current Photo Identification.
- Provide current White Card.
- Have a USI# before Enrolment.
- Have a good understanding of mobile plant equipment.
- Be able to possess adequate Language, Literacy and Numeracy skills.
What you need to bring:
- Photo ID (e.g. driver’s licence or passport).
- Steel-capped boots and appropriate workwear.
- Any previous certifications (if applying for RPL).
